Chapter One

Farris Miles loathed mornings, cold, dark and ugly mornings.
Yet, there he was, walking trough the empty streets of Kailea city, a dangerous place at night, and a ghost city in the early hours.
The chilli air was hurting his brown skin, stabbing it like little knifes.
“Too bad I don’t have a jacket” He tough while burying his big hands in his pockets.
He had sold his leather jacket a few days before, he didn’t want to, but he needed the money, he was unemployed and he didn’t have a cent.
That was the reason he keep walking to that huge black building that was towering over the whole city, the main headquarters of the  AS Inc.   Or, as Farris used to call it, Hell. He entered the building quickly, finding a way to escape the unforgivable cold.
The place was as neat as white as it could be, a tall woman, dressed in a grey suit smiled at him.
-Farris, is good to see you again.
-Good to see you too Sylvia...-Farris smiled a little, his deep voice causing a little echo in the empty place- Am I a little too early?
-Not at all Farris, Mr. Claudius will see you in a moment. Please, take a seat while you wait.
Farris walked lazily to a line of comfortable looking seats, carefully disposed near a little fountain, only then he noticed the little figure sitting in there, a young girl who smiled at him kindly.
-Hi- She said her voice soft and feminine, Farris shrugged, he didn’t need to talk to a stranger in that moment, nevertheless to a girl as weird as her.
She was dressed in black, the whole deal, boots, pants, jacket, still there was traces of colour, the multicoloured belt in her small hips, the rainbow like piercing in her lower lip, the electric blue fingernails and those huge violet eyes of her.
“Damn…She is pretty” Has his only tough before Sylvia called his name.
-Farris Miles!! Mr. Claudius is waiting for you.
Farris headed to Mr. Claudius office, and as soon as he was close, a group of impatient man dragged him to the room.
-Greetings Shadowman, I’m glad you decided to come.
-I’m broken; I didn’t have a lot of options.
Mr. Claudius laugh a little, following his lead, the other mans in the room laughed as well.
-Well well Shadowman, that will make this way easier.
-I don’t understand.
-You don’t have too…Okay, I’ll explain you, we need your help in a back up mission.
-Sorry?
-We need you to take care of a girl.
Farris smiled a little, was this man stupid?
-I don’t kill women.
-I know you don’t, but trust me Farris, that won’t be a problem, you won’t have to kill her…At the contrary, you will have to keep her alive.
-Something like a bodyguard?
-I guess…You’ll have to meet her first- Mr. Claudius smiled a little, pushing a little bottom at his side-Sylvia darling, tell little Aithne that we are waiting for her.
-Yes sir.
After a couple of seconds the doors of the room opened, and the girl that had been waiting downstairs appeared, smiling shyly.
Suddenly, all the pieces of the puzzle matched, and Farris understood why he was there.
-No!! I’m not babysitting that girl!!
